Consider the leader attributes of Samuel and Jonathan in the following lists. Make a list of some of your leader attributes. How do they compare?
Samuel’s Leader Attributes:
- Was honest and fair (1Sam 12:3-4)
- Taught others (1Sam 12:7-23)
- Confronted others (1Sam 12:5-12)
- Never gave up (1Sam 12:20-24)
Jonathan’s Leader Attributes:
- Led the way (1Sam 14:6-13)
- Trusted God (1Sam 14:6)
- Got buy-in (1Sam 14:7)
- Made a plan (1Sam 14:8-10)
My Leader Attributes:
?
?
?
?
The point is not to be exactly like Samuel or Jonathan. The point is to have attributes that please God.

Great insights here! I think all too often people feel they need to emulate the approach someone else takes. While it is good to learn from the lessons from others, it is also important to be your own leader which I think you have summarized nicely.

I really enjoyed this post. It wasn’t super long, or super complex, but it made me think and made me feel something. I am not religious myself, but I do understand that being your own self rather than trying to be someone else is not the way to go. I truly love how you stated that you need to find attributes to please God, not take the ones of people who’ve already done so. Well done!

True… I like the last statement ‘have attributes that please God ‘ God must indeed strive to have, keep and maintain godly virtues in us.. it will make a whole lot of difference in our generation

I lack teaching others. How important is it ? I believe it can help narrow the gap of understanding what my project is about by the potential candidates to work in it.

We don’t all have to be expert teachers; however, one of our responsibilities as leaders is to equip others to serve God well. It can be as simple as letting someone serve along side you to learn by watching you while you do the task together.

Aha. I would like to make this permanent activity and I have one suporter who has the teaching gift. But he works for the worldly organization. Can you please pray that his teaching gift is used for the glory of God ? Thank you.

Dear Lord,
How great is Your goodness (Psa 31:19)! Please guide this man to glorify You and serve others (1Pet 4:10). Remind him to be in Your Word regularly so that what he teaches lines up with Your Word (Heb 5:12-14). Bless him for wanting to do things Your way.
Amen
