Simile and Metaphor

One thing that can make or break a leader is communication skills. An excellent place to learn about effective communication is in the Scriptures. You’ll see frequent use of similes and metaphors to explain things in terms that are understandable to the listeners.

Notice the comparison of Christ to Melchizedek in Hebrews 7:1-22.

Think about something you want to explain to others that is unfamiliar to them. Find something that is familiar to them that has similar characteristics. Then compare the two things as you explain it.

I was just reading something about this from Alister McGrath. He wrote, and I am paraphrasing, that analogies are similar but so much more. This is true especially in attempting to relate the natural to the supernatural.
