John Maxwell notes that the potential of leaders depends on the people closest to them, their inner circle.
He uses David as an example of how to build a strong inner circle.
- Build your inner circle before you need it, 1Chr 12:17-18.
- Be sure you include those with varied gifts, then delegate responsibility based on ability, 1Chr 18:14-17.
- Look for worthy traits in those you seek to include in your inner circle. Maxwell uses the letters in “inner circle” to give us a list of worthy traits.

No one has ever called me “nifty,” so I wouldn’t stack up to that one. Perhaps e = empathetic.

Maxwell uses the letters I-n-n-e-r etc. and writes an acrostic?

Yes. It appears this is an instance of something being both an acrostic and a pair of acronyms. Language is so fun.

Thank you. I’ve read quite a bit of John Maxwell, but hadn’t seen his inner circle traits. Building a “dream team” is certainly important.
God Bless!
