Like me, you may have noticed that sometimes communication is difficult. For example:

  • Someone doesn’t understand your intent.
  • You don’t understand someone else’s intent.
  • You struggle to control your words = speak when it would be better to remain silent.

What can help us to be more effective communicators?

Your Faith in Christ Can Help

  • Your faith in Christ can help you avoid underestimating the importance of your words, Jas 3:1-5. When you begin to understand from God’s perspective that your words are important, you will take what you say more seriously. The wrong words can make an issue worse. Do you realize how your words affect people?
  • Your faith in Christ can help you realize that you need His help to control your words, Jas 3:6-8, Pro 10:19. Do you ask God to tell you when to hold your tongue? Some people advise, “Think before you speak.” Better advice is, “Pray before you speak.”
  • Your faith in Christ can help you find the solution to controlling your words and to assessing the words of others, Jas 3:9-12, Mat 7:15-20. Are your words and actions consistent? Do they align with God’s Words? Are the words you hear from others aligned with God’s Words?
