confrontation-01Though it’s more pleasant to tell others what they are doing well, there are times when a leader must bring concerns to people’s attention. How do you handle situations like that? Do you hesitate to confront others?

…it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith…

When you need to confront others, consider the technique Jude used (Jude 3-4).

  • Though he is clear and firm, he is not harsh or unloving.
  • What could help you use a similar tone with others you need to confront?

Next, consider the times when someone confronts you. As unpleasant as it is for you to be the recipient of a confrontation, it is possible the person speaking to you is experiencing a great deal of stress in the process.

  • Listen intently as you try to find something useful in the feedback, even if the person doesn’t deliver it well.
  • What could you do to be a better listener?

I especially like that you mention here we not only have to confront, but learn how to be confronted, even though that is hard. Great words of wisdom.

Very insightful post…a whole lot packed into few words! Confrontation is inescapable, whether we’re doing the confronting or being confronted, and if done right, it can benefit all who are involved!

Your posts are always insightful but today’s was something I personally really needed to read. Our family has been working on making a tough decision that is going to require some confrontation. Thank you for these guiding words. This is a post I will save to share with my students when we discuss confrontation as well. You are appreciated!
