Guard My Mouth

If you are like most of us, you have spoken some words you later regretted.

Some of us have tried techniques to remind us to think before we speak such as:

  • Count to 10 before saying anything.
  • Ask yourself if what you are about to say would be helpful.

David demonstrated a far more effective way to keep your mouth under control.

He asked God to guard his mouth.

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips, Psa 141:3.

Lord, help us ask for guidance before we open our mouths. Guard our mouths.

I ask God every morning, “Lord, help me meet who You want me to meet today. Tell me what You want me to say, and keep me out of Your way!” I want to reflect His Light … and say what edifies Him. Lord, set my ego aside! Please!
