Regardless of a person’s natural leadership gifts, there is a key requirement for good leadership, 1Tim 3:10.
Consider the example of a plant.
The seed must take root. Then it takes time to grow. It is likely to need some pruning (trials and lessons) before it can bear fruit.
Paul warns that a person who is not spiritually mature will struggle in a leadership role, 1Tim 3:6. They lack the spiritual stability to fight temptations of ego.
It is better to give a person a series of humbler tasks to help them grow.
Look around you at those in leadership role or who appear to have leadership potential.
Do they convey:
- a passion for pleasing God?
- a desire to help others grow closer to Christ?
- a joyful demeanor regardless of the role the Lord has asked them to take?
Do they meet the maturity requirement?
