In Num 21:5, we see the Israelites had sinned by speaking against God. God’s response was to send fiery serpents to bite them (punishment for sin), Num 21:6. The people came to Moses to admit their sin and ask him to pray to God to remove the serpents, Num 21:7. God told Moses to make a fiery serpent and put it on a pole so that anyone bitten could look at the bronze serpent and not die, Num 21:8-9.

Moses gives us an example of a leader who is a servant and spokesperson.

  • Moses led with a servant’s heart. This is how Jesus wants us to lead, Mat 20:25-28.
  • Moses lifted up the bronze serpent and told people to look at it. Jesus wants us to be spokespersons and point people to Him, John 3:14-17.

Do you lead from a position of a servant?

Are you a spokesperson, telling people that Jesus is the only way to remove the poison of sin,  2Cor 5:20-21?
