Prayer Challenge

In Ephesians 6:18, we see Paul’s challenge to pray always for both ourselves and others. It doesn’t sound like a difficult request; however, there are some challenges associated with effective prayer.

  • How you pray can be ineffective:
    • Hesitating to ask, Jas 4:2. (He wants to hear from you.)
    • Giving up, Luke 18:1. (His timetable may be different than yours.)

  • Your heart can hamper prayer:
    • Doubting God, Jas Jas 1:6-7. (Trust Him to honor the promises in His Word.)
    • Wrong motives, Jas 4:3. (Asking for something against God’s Word or for pure selfishness, will get a “no” from God.)
  • How you live your life can interfere with prayer:
    • Rejecting His Word, Pro 28:9. (Focus on growing closer to Him through His Word.)
    • Not confessing sin, Isa 1:15-16, Psa 66:18. (He knows your sins. He is waiting for you to admit it to yourself and ask Him to help get you back on the right path.)

Lord, please, help us overcome these challenges as we release control to the Spirit to guide us in praying effectively as we grow closer to You.
